With so much to offer and numerous historical sites to see, where should one begin? With MITSI of course! Macon Transit Authority's trolley has been offering tours in the downtown Macon area since 1999. The tour consists of all the major historical sites and museums such as the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, the Hay House, Cannonball House, Sidney Lanier Cottage, the Tubman Museum, and more.
MITSI begins her tour at the Macon Convention and Visitors Bureau located downtown on 450 Martin Luther King Drive. You can also catch the trolley at the Terminal Station or any of the downtown stops. Narrated, self-guided tours are offered Monday - Saturday 10 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. The cost is only $1 and the tour is approximately 25 minutes long. You may also purchase a guided Historic Macon Intown Trolley Tour from the Macon Convention & Visitors Bureau, which includes passage aboard the trolley and admission into the most popular attractions.
MITSI is wheelchair accessible, air conditioned, and features an intercom system which the driver uses for narration. There are designated stops and time points for the historical tour. At these stops, passengers can ring the bell to get off and tour the inside of the historical sites. Colored maps & schedules can be picked up at our office located inside the Terminal Station. So, the next time you plan to take a tour of downtown Macon, be on the look-out for MITSI!
